Tree Stewards - Technical Training

  • Bryant Neighborhood Center 1619 6th Avenue Tacoma, WA, 98405 United States (map)

Get hands-on with the skills you need to plant and care for healthy trees in your yard or neighborhood. Learn more about choosing the right tree for the right place, plant around important utilities, and select native or climate-resilient species. Practice proper planting, watering, and how to spot and address common tree health issues to ensure a thriving tree canopy. This workshop includes outdoor planting practice and a group exercise diagnosing real-world tree challenges. This is the perfect follow-up training for folks who’ve attended our other Tree Steward Trainings; but it is not required.

Register and receive a registration confirmation email by June 12th with more details about parking and building accessibility. The event is capped at 20 to make sure everyone can hear and engage with the content throughout the day. Please let us know you’re coming by registering!

Thank you to Tacoma Creates for funding free in-depth arboricultural knowledge for Tacoma’s residents.

  • We’ll be indoors for approximately 3 hours and learning outdoors for approximately 2 hours. Attendees are welcome to stand or sit during different portions of the training. Please dress comfortably and according to the weather forecast. Bring sun and rain protection, a water bottle, and anything else you need to stay focused and happy. All tools and learning materials will be provided. This workshop will provide light refreshments and a light lunch. Please share dietary restrictions in your registration form.

  • Interested in more in depth pruning practice for 3-8 year old street trees? Stay tuned for the Community Tree Program’s Hands-on Pruning Workshop in October. Neither of these workshops will be focusing on fruit trees. Please visit PCD and Harvest Pierce County for fruit tree techniques and resources.
