SHOW YOUR LOVE FOR GREATER TACOMA!
Help us raise $100,000
We want life in the 253 to feel like a walk in the park.
Help us increase access to free and public green spaces!
Given the 100 parks in our municipality, this might seem easy. But a recent Parks Tacoma community survey showed that over 60% of respondents are at least a ten-minute drive away from the nearest park.
For residents in the priority neighborhoods we serve, these ten minutes can involve:
Access to public transit
A walk over a freeway
Or it might not be possible due to mobility issues.
How close are you to a public green space?
The science-based standard for resilient city design states we should all be within a three-minute walk.
Public green spaces improve:
♡ Access to free physical activity ♡ Heart and respiratory health ♡ Mental and emotional wellbeing ♡ Urban heat mitigation and watershed health ♡ Habitat for our local wildlife ♡ Our sense of belonging
Can we close the gap between the ten-minute drive and the three-minute walk for Greater Tacoma?
Yes! Our work over the past eight years has shown us everything that’s possible when we come together:
Since 2021, we have distributed over 19,000 trees for right-of-ways and backyards.
Since 2022, we have planted 165 trees across 4 events on Parks Tacoma properties in priority neighborhoods.
This work has contributed to the recent 1% increase in tree canopy coverage across Tacoma, specifically in priority neighborhoods.
In 2027, we are ready to invest in our increased collaboration with the parks district to better address the urgent need for high-quality green spaces in Greater Tacoma.
In 2025, Parks Tacoma recognized our Planting and Education programs with the Parks Champion Award.
