Join us for a Hilltop Community Walk-Up Tree Share event!
A healthy tree cover is crucial for our climate well-being. In partnership with the Tacoma Tree Foundation, the Shalom Project is exploring direct-action and advocacy efforts to grow Tacoma's urban tree canopy, as this plays an important role in mitigating the impacts of climate change.
Tacoma and the Hilltop Neighborhood suffer from the lowest tree canopy cover in Western Washington! Explore Hilltop’s Tree Equity Score and read more about what TTF and our partners are doing to address environmental racism in Tacoma.

Thank you in advance for reflecting on your financial stability and access to purchase trees from our many local nurseries. TTF tree share events are designed to reach neighbors facing financial, social and physical barriers to adopting trees. We believe EVERYONE deserves access to trees. That’s while you’ll see we’ve reserved the first hour of our share for folks in the community who identify as Black, Indigenous and People of Color. We are working towards creating spaces that feel welcoming and accessible to everyone, especially those most marginalized.
How do I pick a tree? Use our planting guides while you think about your planting site. We always recommend calling 811 or visiting this website before adopting a tree. These resources can help you pick the right tree for the right place! Consider bringing a vehicle that can fit small trees and laying down old towels or a tarp. You can bring a wagon if you’re a Peace Lutheran neighbor or hilltop local!
Everyone who walks away with a tree will receive planting and tree care resources. Planting assistance is reserved for residents of the Hilltop Neighborhood who need that support to adopt a new tree. Tacoma Tree Foundation, Peace Lutheran and St. Marks community members are eager to support the Hilltop neighborhood in receiving more trees!
